Duration :4 years
Eligibility : XII Science with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and/or Maths as subjects.
B. Tech. in Biotechnology with specializations in :
Medical Biotechnology
Food Technology
Biotechnology harnesses cellular and biomolecular process to develop technology and products that improve the quality of human life and the world around us. Modern biotechnology has revolutionized the fields of healthcare, medicine, agriculture and environment leading to better treatment procedures and improved quality of food and environment.
Medical Biotechnology:
Medical Biotechnology uses living cells and cell materials to produce novel pharmaceutical and diagnostic products that help and prevent human diseases. Medical biotechnology has enormous potential for novel and innovative solutions in the field of medicine.
The Examples of discoveries in this field include insulin, growth hormone, recombinant drugs and vaccines. The field of medicine is evolving from curative methods towards adopting preventive and predictive methods. With the rapid strides in genomic understanding, it is now possible to customize therapies for individual cases.
Students who wish to realize their dreams in the field of medicine would find medical biotechnology a challenging and rewarding area for education.
In the first year of the programme, the students will undergo a common core curriculum for engineering. Study of core biotechnology subjects will begin from the second year onwards in molecular biology, cell culture techniques, advanced analytical techniques and mammalian physiology. The third and fourth year will be dedicated to specialized training in either food or medical biotechnology with experiential learning through live projects.
ADYPU being an innovation university has already embarked in collaboration with the industry for projects in medical and Food technology. Projects related to environmental biotechnology have also been initiated in national interest by this university.
Food technology:
Food technology is a science that increases the speed and precision with which food traits and food production practices can be enhanced. Food technology also includes safe and efficient methods of processing raw material for novel finished products. The ever increasing global population and rising food prices have posed immense challenges to health, nutrition and environment.
There is a global need for skilled professionals in the food sector to meet food security concerns. Value added food biotech products include cooking oils fortified by addition of vitamins and biotechnologically enhanced grains like rice which contain carotene and iron. Research in Food technology has also led to the production of enhanced meat and poultry products.
Food technology provides sustainable solutions such that tangible environment and economic benefits can be realized in a short span of time. Food technology is an exciting new area of education which provides immense opportunities in sustainable development of human health and environment.
